There was a time when the eccentric genius Ram Gopal Varma was considered a true icon of Indian cinema and many take him as role model. Even today, the respect and mania for him exists but along with that, a fair sense of criticism has also developed on RGV, thanks to his statements and views.
As a result, RGV has become a coolsubject of mockery in movies. Many Telugu movies use RGV and his movies as reference for their comedy scenes. Now, it has reached Bollywood also. Two recent releases ‘Mastizaade’ and ‘Saala Khadoos’ has used RGV as a tool for their humour.

In ‘Mastizaade’ there is a scene wherein actor Asrani says his father’s name is Ram Gopal and his mother’s name is Urmila. This is a pun referring to the alleged affair between RGV and Urmila Matondkar. In ‘Saala Khadoos’ Nasser comes to Madhavan and says “You have come as the coach no, let us see whether you make Aag or Sholay” referring to RGV’s disaster movie ‘Aag’.
